Cleaning a glass shower screen is one of those chores that’s regularly put to the bottom of the do-list if it feels too hard – but if you stay on top of the maintenance, you can have shower screens that sparkle year-round.
In fact, you may be surprised to learn that the most effective cleaning product is a combination of two everyday household products you probably already have handy!
Cleaning a Glass Shower Screen
It’s not hard to bring the shine back to your glass shower if you know the right way to clean it!
And no – you do not need harsh chemicals to make your enclosure sparkle. In fact, harsh chemicals/bleach can affect the fittings and framing of your screen, so we advise against it.
Our recommendation is to use a 50/50 mixture of white cleaning vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Two items you probably already have in your kitchen or laundry.
The method:
- Measure out equal amounts of white cleaning vinegar and dish detergent
- Fill a spray bottle with the solution
- Spray a generous amount of the solution onto the glass screen and let it sit for 10 minutes
- Hose down the screen with water
- Wipe excess water and solution off with a sponge or cloth
- Dry with a microfibre cloth or just squeegee dry. If you want to wipe dry – use a clean glass cloth. If you want to squeegee the glass, we recommend a silicone squeegee as they are more flexible.
For the best long-term results clean your shower screen weekly with this combination of ingredients.
**It’s important to note that if you’ve got marble in your bathroom – do NOT use vinegar to clean your glass as it will etch and leave blemishes on your marble. Marble is a natural stone, therefore it is vulnerable to acidic cleaners and liquids. If you have marble, it is best to seek the manufacturer’s advice on which products are suitable to clean with.
How to Prevent Soap Scum on Your Shower Screen
Maintaining your screen and keeping the soap scum at bay will be easier if you also wash down your glass doors with water after every use and squeegee off the liquid.
