Shower Door Replacement: FAQS
When should a shower door be replaced?
- The glass screen is broken, cracked or defective:
If your glass door has received a hard hit and shattered or cracked, it is a safety hazard and you’ll need to call in a professional to replace your glass as soon as possible.
- The hinges are broken:
When the hinges aren’t working as they should, your door may not be securely in place and may be at risk of falling off and breaking.
Worn/damaged fittings compromise the function and safety of the glass as it could lead to stress on the glass or rubbing of glass panels.
- The framework is rusting or discoloured:
This is a sign that the framework that’s helping to support your glass door is gradually becoming weaker.
- Soap scum and wear and tear has turned the etched glass cloudy
Whilst soap scum may not be “dangerous” on toughened glass, it is unsightly.
If your screen features laminated glass and the “cloudiness” is due to glass cancer forming, this compromises the glass safety. Laminated glass is where 2 panels of glass are laminate together, it is this lamination process that allows the glass to be classified as safety glass.
If glass cancer is forming, it means that moisture has penetrated between the 2 panels of glass, therefore disrupting the lamination.
- The door doesn’t close like it’s meant to, or your doors stick:
This may be an indication that your door is at risk of breaking as it’s on its last legs.
