Pivot shower doors are a sought-after style for homeowners in Brisbane and beyond.
In this blog, we explain more about the function of pivot doors and discuss when they might be the best choice for your bathroom.
Firstly, we’re going to describe the differences between pivot and hinged shower doors.
Pivot Shower Screens Vs Hinged Shower Door
Pivot shower screens can open inwards and outwards due to the pivot hinge used in their installation:
- The pivot blocks are fitted to one side of the screen at the top and bottom
- Pivot blocks can be fitted to semi-frameless screens.
Hinged shower door can also swing both directions.
- With hinged doors, the hinges are attached to a fixed glass panel or a wall.
- Hinges can be used on frameless screens and semi-frameless screens
- Hinges are more visible than pivot blocks and there needs to be a gap between the fixing and the door, so there’s the potential for water to leak out.
- If the doors are the same size the hinge door will need more room to move than a pivot style.

Semi-Frameless Pivot Shower Door
At Shower Enclosure Service, the pivot showers we fabricate include semi-frameless screens with frameless doors that pivot on top and bottom pivot blocks.
These pivot blocks are available in several colours, so you can pick the best hue to match your other tapware.
It’s also important to note that with semi-frameless pivot shower doors, you don’t have the same size limitations as you do with semi-frameless sliding shower doors. This is because you don’t have to account for the top and bottom rollers.
Sliders must slide in behind the fixed panel and won’t work with narrow screens. At least 1/3 of the opening must be big enough to act as a clear entry point.
